As we launch this new decade of BARRC, I would first like to thank both our outgoing Treasurer, David Cherry, and Corresponding Secretary, Rosemary Simpson, for their dedication and service to the club over the last four years. A big welcome to Karen Stewart who comes in as First Vice-President, to Phyllis Wendelboe, our newly elected Corresponding Secretary, and to Tina Jones who will serve as Director for one year to complete the term vacated when Kathy Lordier was voted in as BARRC Treasurer.
We are very happy that Wendy Peirce signed on to be our Education Chair. Wendy will soon be posting articles of interest about our breed specifically, and dogs in general. If there is a subject you would like to see addressed, please contact Wendy at email@example.com.
We will once again start the year off with our 3rd Annual BARRC All Breed Agility Trial, spearheaded by Carol Vesely, February 28-29 and March 1 at Thorsens Arena in Morgan Hill. Carol and her team of volunteers have established a respected and well attended trial in just a few short years. This will also be the location of our first general meeting of the year. We look forward to seeing you there! Anyone that would like to see agility in action are encouraged to come on out – and volunteer to help out! It’s fun and all jobs are easy-peasy!! Contact Carol at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are so moved.
We are very excited about our next event for 2020: BARRC ‘s first ever All Breed Fast CAT Trials on March 28 at Solano Community College in Fairfield. There will be two trials, a.m. and p.m. Our Fast CAT fearless leader is Michelle Price. As always, our volunteers play a huge role in the success of our events. If you want to see what Fast CAT is about, volunteer to help out or just show up and see all the crazy fun contact Michelle at BARRCfcatSecretary@outlook.com for all info.
Next up will be lure coursing the weekend of April 18-19 in Oakley; one day will be an AKC All Breed Trial and one day will be an ASFA All Breed Trial. This is always a fun weekend and if you have yet to experience lure coursing, mark your calendar and show up! There is nothing that compares to seeing our dogs do what they were born to do - RUN after the “bunny”! Want more info? Contact Janice Schindler-Horvat at email@example.com.
Rosemary Simpson is our newly appointed Specialty Show Chair, with Tina Jones as Assistant Show Chair. Set the date of October 15th aside to come on out to our 17th Annual Specialty Show at Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Our judge is Mr John Mayhall and our Sweeps Judge is Mr Howie Bailiff. Happily we will be offering Obedience, Rally and Lure Coursing again this year. Look for more info to be posted.
This past November BARRC sponsored a RRCUS Boot Camp. This was an enormous success and we thank Karen Charney and Kathy Lordier for all their efforts. The RRCUS team included Mrs Barbara Rupert, Dr Danielle Sand and Dr Susan Ralston. We could not have wished for a better team to present a day dedicated to education, evaluation and participation.
How did this come about? In response to a survey asking members what you would like from the club, one of you requested Boot Camp and we made it happen. If there is something you think might be of interest, don’t be shy! Contact a BARRC BOD member and tell us your ideas! It’s been said before: we are at our best when we listen to our members, work together and have fun together! Keep checking the BARRC Facebook pages and web site for upcoming events.
